Minecraft Developers Shared A Plan For Interacting With NFT

Last weekend, the Climate Replay team, which includes the developers of the popular Minecraft game, released a pledge to integrate non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and digital currencies into games.

“Games give us hope in an increasingly uncertain world. They help us unleash our creativity and free us from real constraints – physical, financial or otherwise,” said the Climate Replay team.

They also added to this message by warning of the huge risks the space has been facing lately:

“Most NFTs, and by extension most forms of digital property in their current state, serve the exact opposite purpose—their value is entirely determined by artificial scarcity and speculation, and fueled by waste of physical resources.”

The developers stated that it is essential to the health of the global gaming community, the planet and society as a whole that any implementation of blockchain-based technologies occurs only when they bring a clear benefit to games and their communities. In connection with the above statement, the team called for developers of game finance, or GameFi, to adhere to, among other things, the following principles:

  • Bring meaningful value to players through digital assets;
  • Not to use obviously inefficient technologies that lead to a specific and significant impact on the environment;
  • Do not use artificial scarcity to create speculative value;
  • Do not rely on unregulated, volatile cryptocurrencies;
  • Not bring disproportionate benefit to early adopters or richer users/players;
  • Be transparent and serious about the concerns of studio members.

Apart from this, the team is also looking to bring about major changes to the current play-and-earn model associated with GameFi. This includes shifting the main goal of such games from P2E to having fun. In other words, players should not receive income from such games as “unofficial work”. However, some people have the opposite opinion on this. In a number of countries, many players have quit their official jobs, as there is more money in games, as, for example, it happens with the players of the popular game Axie Infinity. However, players are becoming more and more frustrated due to the sharp drop in the price of one of the main in-game tokens in Aixe Infinity, which has led to a corresponding drop in their income level.
