Greg Cipes, voice actor, creates an NFTV project that uses DAO to create user-generated content along with projects from major movie and TV stars. Cipes certainly knows something, as he is a true veteran of the entertainment industry. With this new project, he aims to bring his television and film industry to Web3.
Cipes started the project with fellow actor Lukas Haas after first entering the NFT through DAO Highlights. Cipes first learned about NFT during the pandemic when some friends told him about the technology. He quickly saw it as the perfect vehicle to empower creative communities and connect with fans:
“NFTV is created by people for people. The goal is not to make money, although that can happen.”
In other words, Cipes wants to give people more share and control over the content they watch using the power of a decentralized autonomous organization. Cryptocurrency is one of the top three hobbies of the voice actor, he believes that this direction can greatly change the world.
Describing the content he wants to see on NFTV, Cipes explained:
“I see NFTV as the old MTV… more like MTV meets Adult Swim when it was cool. I also call it ADD TV.”
This points to the fast-paced and eclectic mix of short content that DAO will be releasing. In a way, NFTV combines traditional entertainment networks with the user-generated content model that social media platforms have made so popular. Cipes emphasizes that this was done on purpose , as it reflects the age of the audience that NFTV primarily targets:
“It’s really made for the younger generation to have content from a network that isn’t run by billionaires and oligarchs.”
Despite the fact that NFTV is built on the Ethereum network, at first the content will be broadcast on Twitter and YouTube, in other words, the content will be as accessible as possible to everyone . Cipes admits that although he has his own vision for the development of the platform, all changes and decisions will be made by the DAO.
To do this, the DAO will have a governance model that uses tokens to distribute votes among members. In addition, the DAO will issue airtime tokens for those who watch NFTV content. At the moment, there is no information about when the tokens will be issued, but this once again underlines the goal of the DAO – to set a price that many people can afford.
Cipes shared that the path to creating NFTV was not an easy one. But here is what did not stop him on the way to achieve his goal:
“It was very hard for me to get to NFTV. But whenever I thought about stopping, I thought, “Well, someone else will do it, and it won’t be as good! And every time I kept walking, I saw that the universe liked it.”
He hopes NFTV will serve as an example for other creators to take control of their art, and to empower their fans to do so:
“My advice for getting started is just get started!”
