- Microsoft partnered with Meta
- They will bring Office 365 apps to Metaverse
- Mark Zuckerberg called it “the virtual office of the future”
Meta Platforms has partnered with giant Microsoft to bring a range of Microsoft Office 365 products to the Meta Virtual Reality (VR) platform. This should encourage companies to work in a virtual environment.
The details of the project were revealed at the Meta Connect 2022 forum. Microsoft representatives said that the Teams video calling app integrates with the Meta “Quest” and the Meta ” Quest Pro ” VR headset. This will allow people to gather in a virtual space similar to a conference room.
Other well-known office applications from Microsoft will also appear in VR Meta – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint. The option to stream Windows Cloud to Meta headsets will be added in the future.
Now about corporate security. Microsoft has apps for managing employee identities. They will be compatible with the Meta Quest and Quest Pro headsets. That is, companies will manage and secure VR headsets on their corporate networks like they do with computers and phones.
Meta is betting on its new Quest Pro headset. They say that with its help, the “virtual offices of the future” will appear. The new hardware is more comfortable, has better performance and clarity, and has a higher resolution than the existing headset.
Another question is whether all this will help increase the popularity of the metaverses. So far, even Meta employees are not willing to use their products – it has come to the point that they want to force them to visit the metaverses.
