Mojang Studios, known for developing the Minecraft game, has announced that it refuses to integrate NFT and blockchain. The company explained its decision by the unreliability of NFT and the speculative actions behind this technology.
“This use of NFTs and other blockchain technologies creates a digital identity based on limitation and exclusivity that is inconsistent with the values of Minecraft.”
Mojang Studios also prohibited the introduction of blockchain technologies into the company’s products and using any Minecraft in-game content to create NFTs.
The company has generally criticized the current culture around the NFT space, citing increased ragpools, hacks, and scams in the space.
Under the new rules, third-party blockchain technologies cannot be integrated into Minecraft client and server applications. They cannot be used to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including worlds, skins, personal items, and other mods. While these changes won’t affect most Minecraft players, they will likely have significant implications for the small group of gamers who make money from in-game NFTs. Therefore, Minecraft-related NFT collections may violate such terms, and their owners may face legal consequences.
