Renowned director Spike Lee has announced that he will create an NFT collection based on the TV series and the film of the same name, She Needs It Badly. To bring his ideas to life, the director will collaborate with The Visible Project, of which Spike Lee has recently been chairman, and with Habitat Labs.
The collection of 3,945 NFTs will allow anyone to own a unique still from the 1986 film, including fan-favorite characters like Mars Blackmon, played by Lee himself. In addition to the 35mm cut aesthetic, NFT will also feature additional illustrations from artists Tré Seals and Adrian Franks.
“This groundbreaking collection and initiative will have a huge impact on NFTs within ‘traditional’ entertainment. We are creating a new kind of marketplace where collectors will own a piece of classic film history and be able to fund and green-light real projects,” said Habitat Labs spokesman Eliot Green.
At the moment, little is known about the collection, including the price, release date, and marketplace where it will be presented.
The film once won the love of director Spike Lee’s most devoted fans, especially considering it was his first directorial effort. This may have been sufficient reason for Lee’s decision to add the NFT component to this film and not to his other works. Or perhaps the director thus decided to honor his iconic work.
