The social network VKontakte will update the interface of its mobile application before integrating NFT and Web3 functions. It is reported that the update will take place in several stages. The first one took place on August 9th. The leadership of the social network did not tell us what awaits us in the updated application and what Web3 functions will be integrated.
Marina Krasnova, executive director of VKontakte, said that the social network had set a record for attendance – 100 million monthly active users. VKontakte has become the leader among platforms in Russia. The upcoming update lays the foundation for introducing innovative technologies, says Krasnova.
VKontakte’s plans to move to the Web3 space began in February when Alexander Tobol, CTO, announced that the social network would soon introduce NFT to protect copyrighted content and monetize it. For this initiative, the social network will implement existing blockchain networks. The team from VKontakte is not yet thinking about developing its ecosystem.
In May, the marketplace and metaverse from VKontakte were also announced. Thus, the social network strives to become a leader among NFT providers in Russia and the CIS.
